Development vs Live setups - recommendation?

We have 2 wholly separate CRM systems, using different CRM servers & different databases hosting them both. What is the recommended best way to move tested inaport setups (multiple profiles) from test to live ? The assumption behind question is that, as in our case, you need different licence keys and data connectors for the 2 different target environments. Is there any prospect of an inaport version that could toggle between a dev and a live setup easily ? EDIT > if there were a feature for this, being possible at the command line / in a batch file would be ideal. Thanks. Hi Russell Assuming that the two CRM systems are the same in all relevant respects, the only thing that changes in a profile is the connector being used to select the target CRM system. You have two choices: - Use two connectors: CRM_Dev and CRM_Prod, for example. Build and test the profile using CRM_Dev connector, then when ready, simply switch the profile to using the CRM_Prod connector.
- Use a single connector. Initially point the connector at the Dev system; when ready change the connector to point to the Prod system. The advantage of this approach is that you do not have to touch the profiles. The disadvantage is you can get confused as to which system is being used at any point in time.
In general, we recommend the first approach. The challange with both approaches is you currently have to change the license to switch between Dev and Prod. While this is a simple process, it can be annoying. You can have two installs of Inaport on different machines (or even the same machine) and have one configured with the Dev license, and one configured with the Prod license. There is an enhancement for Inaport in development at the moment - allowing you to specify which license to use in the connector. That way you specify the main license in the Tools - License Manager as the default license, but in the Dev connector you specify that the Dev license is to be used. The should be available in the next couple of weeks. HTH. Let us know if you have further questions.

Looking at it, there is another downside, which is that during development work, the live setup must be disabled, as you are switching licences.
Is it possible, when running profiles from the command line / batchfile, to specify in the command the licence to use ? if this were possible, you could spend days developing while allowing scheduled profiles to run unmolested. In our scenario, the system will be running profiles frequently, so it is desirable not to have to turn them off during development work. |
